Jennings County Youth Foundation gathered youth organization together to provide everyone in the community with a free Thanksgiving meal. Children and their families were encouraged to participate in this service learning project. Together we collected monetary and food donations for the meal, cooked the food, set up for the dinner, served food, and cleaned up afterwards. Everyone in Jennings County was invited to eat a meal for free.
121 people volunteered to make this event happen and over half of them were children! We feed 129 people meals. We took left over meals to local homeless shelters, factories, and rehabilitation homes.
Through this program, children learned the importance of philanthropy and the effects it has on the community. They also learned that no matter how small you are, you can still make a huge impact on others. It encouraged families to get out and do something together that just makes you feel good and be thankful for what you have. Also, all children in the community were invited to come eat a meal for free.
This program benefited the community because it proved every member of our community the opportunity to have a free Thanksgiving meal. It also was a time for the whole community to come together socialize and be thankful. People in the community got to witness one of the many things that we do to help our community and youth.
