About Us

Jennings County Youth Foundation, JCYF, is a community-based nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization ran entirely by volunteers that was started in October 2010 from an initiative led by Janet Clerkin. Janet put together an event for the youth of Jennings County known as “Jennings County’s Got Talent” with all proceeds going to the fundraising efforts for a community youth center. She spread the word and got several people interested including Kelly Hatton, Shannon Palmer, Sunshine Galliher, Gary Smith, Roger James, Mark Holwager and Danny Schiller. They formed a foundation, applied for non-profit status, and serve as the founding Board of Directors and Emeritus board members.

Jennings County continues to rank among the worst for child well-being in the state of Indiana, 59% of students receive free or reduced per the most recent information released by the Indiana Department of Education.

Children who live in economically struggling families "have gaps in learning, knowledge, and socio-emotional development". Engaging the families in our communities requires a shared effort, with youth-service providers, school staff, and community members committed to youth development.

High quality after-school programs generate positive outcomes for youth. Communities and businesses also benefit when youth have safe and productive ways to spend their time while their parents are at work.
